This week I am super excited to do a blog post about pretty much what I wear on a daily basis…athleisure wear and a little about my post pregnancy weight loss journey. I have always tried to buy cute, flattering athletic wear because it not only encourages me to workout but I can also wear it while running errands, taking Tommy to the park, etc. I have always been an on and off workout person. I workout for a few months- stop and start again. It’s really hard being a working mom because so many other priorities come into play. I’m not trying to give excuses but that’s sort of my reality. For a while, after I had Tommy, I did do BBG after so many other bloggers were talking about it. I love any type of a workout that I can do at home. My only problem is I get super bored and then I get unmotivated…hence the up and down workout routine. I do love walking and have stuck with that in my routine as much as possible. Having a dog has really kept me accountable because I know he loves the long walks.
Weight Loss After Pregnancy
When I was pregnant with Tommy, I gained 45 pounds. Plus, and did I mention that Tommy was a 10 pound baby?!? Yah! So, I was very eager to lose the weight after I had Tommy. One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was to slowly get active after giving birth. When you are active, it releases endorphins which helps promote a positive mood. I started doing 5 minute walks with my son and dog and then slowly increased that. It made me less emotional and honestly I began to look forward to it. So, now I am more of a walker and I try to do a half hour a day. It does get hard during my busier seasons like October-December but I do my best to keep myself accountable. I think having a friend or a relative that helps keep you accountable or that you can walk with is especially good.
The other mindset change I have made is from diet to healthy lifestyle. I think a lot of people say diet so they secretly cringe to get started and tend to procrastinate. I realized that as I get older and as I get busier, I have to always have a healthy mindset. So that means being careful with what I eat and exercising regularly. I am definitely not perfect and as you can see in my pictures, I am not the skinniest. I realize that, but I am doing the best I can. I know in this industry, many bloggers are super skinny and sort of give you a level to achieve to. I’m sorry to break it to you but I’m not that type of girl. I’m constantly working at being a better mom, wife, worker, friend, family member, and dare I say fitness enthusiast. One of the reasons why I started a blog was because I was sick and tired of seeing all these bloggers share a link to an expensive t-shirt that not the average person can purchase or present a lifestyle far from the norm. There are a lot of women out there reading this that are just like me. I’m a working mom, I have to probably lose a few pounds, and I want to find the cutest outfits at a deal…lol.
Lastly, one thing that has really helped keep me accountable is my Apple watch. I am obsessed with it! Many of you know, I am in education and can’t always reach for my phone. The Apple watch helps me to send and receive messages without doing that. My cousin who is a nurse, uses hers in the hospital all the time. Even when I used to work in an office, there was a limited cell phone use policy, and so if that’s you, an Apple watch is great just for that feature alone. But there is even more that can be done with it regarding fitness. It reminds me to breath…which is super helpful in stressful situations, monitors my heart rate, reminds me of upcoming appointments & to do lists, and it counts my steps! So when I am cleaning the house, running errands, working, it counts all those steps. Then, the cool thing is that it connects to my fitness app so it gives me “points” or extra calories that I can use towards a special dinner or dessert. I like the Loseit app (free) or the weight watchers app.
Okay, I think I covered everything. If you have some questions let me know. I still have a few pounds to lose and am working towards that. I sort of fell off the band wagon during the holidays. It’s hard being a part of a latin family because it’s an insult to not try someone’s delicious food/ dessert. That’s why having a balance is so important and using a fitness app to keep track of your eating.
