Hi Everyone,

I hope you are having a great week so far. I have had a few questions regarding my skin care routine and I wanted to give you all what I have been using for skin care. Now, the first thing I’d like to say is especially when pregnant, ask your doctor about anything you are worried about. For example, my doctor said nothing with Vitamin A or Salicylic Acid. I have played it very safe and put a lot of my medical grade products on the shelf for now because I couldn’t find the ingredients list or I was worried about it being too strong. I’ll explain more below…

Before I begin, I wanted to say that I try my best to adopt the K-Beauty Style Skin Care Routine. I don’t do everything like mask or use serums every day because of my pregnancy, but I try to do most of the steps while pregnant. Here is the K-Beauty Regiment:

  • Step 1: Cleanser (I double cleanse at night more info at the bottom)
  • Step 2: Toner
  • Step 3: Essence
  • Step 4: Ampoule  (Highly concentrated serum)
  • Step 5: Serum
  • Step 6: Eye cream
  • Step 7: Moisturizer  (Light weight for the day, Heavy at night)
  • Step 8: Sunscreen (if during the day)

Here’s the breakdown:

Step 1: I use the Clinique bar soap in the morning. It’s best to rinse your face with just water and then wash your face. Clinique is a soap I only use while pregnant, it’s not my favorite but it’s affordable, lasts a long time and it’s mild. If it’s at night, I double cleanse using this cleanser which is more affordable than the Elemis version and it’s just as good.

Step 2: I use a Laneige Toner. It’s not over drying for the skin. Remember, if it dries your skin, it probably has alcohol in it which ages you; so stay away from products that burn and dry your skin.

Step 3: Essence. I use this essence. It’s a little pricey but worth it. I would also like to mention that mine has lasted almost a year and is still going strong. You only need very little. Essence is like a surge of hydration for the skin. It’s not creamy it is like fresh special water infused into the skin. The other one I like is this one. I never understood the point of an essence but they do make a difference in the plumpness and overall hydrated look of my skin.

Step 4 and 5: Ampoule. I completely skin this step but this would be when you would use a retinol of some sort (at night only). I was using an amazing serum before I got pregnant but just to be sure, I stopped it. Many people still use a serum while pregnant and that is a choice between you and your doctor.

Step 6: Eye Cream. I use this at night. I really like it and it has lasted me almost a year. You only need a very little. I also add it to my forehead and frown lines.

Step 7: Moisturizer. What you use at this point depends on the time of day. I use a lightweight moisturizer during the day and a heavier one at night. Also, in the beginning of my pregnancy I completely replaced my moisturizer with coconut oil because it naturally fights acne and I had a lot of acne during my first trimester. More info on that here.

Step 8: Sunscreen. This is only for during the day. I am very careful to wear sunscreen during the hotter seasons. So i’ll probably start in April/May. My makeup already has SPF in it so the sunscreen is just an extra barrier. I recommend this, especially for men, to wear everyday. I usually break out easily from sunscreen but I never have with this one. They also have a mineral matte version here.
